Thoughts while watching mud bowl 2004...(LSU vs OSU)

You guys are sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo lucky!!! You did not deserve to win that game. Ya'll played like crap for 2.5 hours, and then played well for 30 minutes and won. If Oregon State didn't have Ray Finkle kicking (Ace Ventura reference, "laces out"), ya'll would have been sunk. It would have been humiliating for ya'll to drop your first game after winning the national championship to a PAC 10 school (though not as humbling as losing to a Mountain West school...sigh). It would have ruined your season, and mine (I'll explain that in a sec), not to mention hurting everyone who is doing the pick 'em contest (since everyone rated the LSU vs OSU game as a ten). So Chad, call up "hair plugs" and tell him no more close one's like that! It was a great game, though. 'Tis the excitement of college football! Now, to explain why it would have ruined my season. Since the Aggies are doomed to another crappy season (A&M already lost to Utah 41-21, thus my Mountain West comment), I have to rely on my fall back team (the tigers) to provide me with happiness. So, if you take last years results for the two teams during the regular season (A&M 4-8 LSU 12-1), they have to even out this year or do better. So if ya'll lose a game this year, that means A&M will have to win one more than they did last year (or else I'll go into a deep state of football depression). So if ya'll go 9-2 this year (one more loss then last year) and A&M doesn't improve by at least one game to 5-6 (one more win then last year), then I will blame you (LSU fans) for the Aggies' woes (just like ya'll blame me for LSU losses to UAB in '00 and Florida in '03). So let's see if we can't work this out so we all go home happy at the end of the season. :-) Peace be with you. Thanks and gig' em. - David

sorry I didn't feel like "blogging-in." Dave, I blame you for nothing...since the A&M/LSU rivalry looks like it will be a long time in coming, I don't see why we all can't go home happy. BUT, Tigers is ALWAYS spelled with a capitol "T." Get it right. -Laura

First Yes we played like crap, but this is what makes this team different than other Tiger teams, we won. In years previous we wouldn't have had the guts to come out after three quarters and put together some drives to score. This team is showing they have the stuff to make champions(maybe not this year, but soon), Also I was proud of most of the fans for sticking it out. Previous years half the stadium would've have left with 4 or 5 minutes on the clock saying stuff like "Same old **#%$#@ Tigers!" On the note of their guy missing three extra points, yes that is pathetic since those all should be gimmes. You should only miss maybe one all season, but I blame OSU coaches for that, there should only be white people(mainly of foreign descent) and Mexicans kicking for you, not Chinese people. Also if I recall right, I do believe that we left 6 points on the field from kicking so that trumps their 3 points. Secondly their coaches are stupid for even going for the tie at that point, LSU was dominating their team at that point. The touchdown in over time was luck, a slip in coverage. The Tiger defense was swarming and their was huffing and puffing, they never would have hung around in OT. They should have went for the win but their coach is a wuss and knew that they wouldn't pick up the 2 point conversion. So my thoughts are that yes we sucked it up for most of the game but we pulled it out and yes some of it was luck but we left 13 easy points on the field, they left 3.
On another topic of the game I think the future is now with our redshirt freshman JaMarcus Russell, he showed he had some serious talent. His throws were clean and crisp and all but 3 or 4 were on the money. One being a chance for a touchdown, there is 7 more points bringing the total to 20. I think JaMarcus needs to start because Randall did not look like he had improved as I had been hearing, and if we are going to be great the next two years we need an experienced QB and he is not going to get good sitting on the bench.
Now on to the Aggies, my goodness that looked like a high school team. I haven't really looked at your schedule that much but if ya'll play like that every week, you'll be lucky to win four again this year. That is it, I welcome your thoughts Dave and anybody else.

One more thought on the mud bowl as you put it. If it doesn't rain and cool off like 20 degrees and turn the field into a mess. Chad feels that LSU would have dominated from start to finish and covered the spread easily. Youl could see that they were much more talented than the Beavers(on that note its really embarrassing that I had to explain the sexual conotation behind that to Kate and Nikki) and would've pulled away easily in the second half. But I will give credit to them offensively they played the exact way you need to against us, they showed our weaknesses on defense. Now that is it.

One more thing completely unrelated to football. Laura I think the word you were looking for is capital not capitol as in Washington, D.C. the capitol of the great nation of the U.S. of A.

OK,lets see...Laura, I wasn't talking about you blaming me for LSU losses to UAB and Florida, I was talking about Chad and Jason. We have a running joke that ya'll always lose when I go to a game at Tiger stadium (mainly, because every time I have gone to one, ya'll have lossed) though, C&J actually believe I caused it :). I sincerely apologize for not capitalizing "Tigers." OK, unto sexy's posts...when I said ya'll played like crap, I didn't mean that ya'll were crappy, or that ya'll would continue to play like crap, only that ya'll played bad in that game. And I was only kidding about the luck (well partly). Ya'll did have some luck with the missed extra points, but ya'll won because ya'll are a championship caliber team and you played like champions. Thats the difference between ya'll and t.u., ya'll have roughly equal talent, but ya'll put it together, play as a team, and perform like champions. As to your comment about their coach being stupid about even kicking that last extra point, you would be correct if it hadn't been for the fact that the coach was freaking out on the side line trying to call a time out (to call the 2 point conv), but didn't get it called in time. Their guys were out of gas and their coach knew it. You didn't know that, because you weren't watching it on tv like me. Also of interest that you wouldn't know because you weren't watching it on tv, on the second TD+missed extra point, the reason that he missed it was because they had a delay of game penalty and it pushed them back. With the angle that he kicked it at, he would have made it if they had been closer. The reason that they got the penalty was because when the reciever caught the TD, he took off with the ball, because he wanted to keep it because it was his first career TD. He didn't know that it would cause a penalty, but it did. Idiot. But you are right, those kicks should have been a gimme, but I suspect that the weather/mud may have had something to do with his bad kicks, as well as yours, of course I could be wrong. You are right about the idea of "what if" or "woulds, coulda, shoulda," ya'll could have made the field goals or scored here or there and they could have made the 3 PAT's. But none of it really matters, because it didn't happen. At the end of the season, the only thing that will be remembered is that the OSU game was in the W category and not the L category. Also, I agree on Russell, I was saying that the whole time he was playing. In regards to the weather, yes, minus the mud, LSU pounds OSU. As far as your comment about the Aggies...Chad comparing how A&M played against Utah to high school football is an insult...to high school football. As far as Kate and Nikki not knowing that, that's pretty funny. As far as most Aggies fearing a lose to Wyoming this weekend, that's not pretty funny. I think that we will be fine and will cover the spread, which is 9 (Ags favored). I will still stand by my preseason prediction of 6-5 for the season (by the way, I did predict the lose to Utah), though I wouldn't be surprised if it was 5-6. Peace.

By the way, sorry for all of the run-on sentences in the previous post. I didn't feel like posting with my usual Hemingway like style of writing...it's Monday, and I'm tired.

Your right, at the end of the season all I'm going to see there is a W. Thats all that matters in the end.

My appologies for posting where I wasn't supposed to...you should put a sign up. The word you were looking for is lost, not lossed. And Chad, I am sorry I thought that capital was money. Also, everyone in their right mind knows that for the last two years the Tigers have shown little to no promise in the first half of most any football game unless they scored within the first two possessions of the ball. Why do you expect any different this year. My Tigers love the second half victory and more specifically the 4th quarter victory. And Chad, that beaver thing had to be explained to me also...kind of like muf(f?).

Laura,
So you know I wasn't correcting you in a mean way. I actually had to go look it up because I wasn't sure, gotta rely on dictionary.com ha ha.. Anyways, I hope you weren't offended and thanks for pointing out the lost thing, that one was pretty stupid of me

Oh David,
Just so you know, you did cause my Tigers to lose 2 games. I place sole responsibility on you. Not Gerry Dinardo(who sucks) and espicially not the whole team for getting a little cocky. I think you mere presence in the stadium caused a slight shift among atmospheric pressure causing LSU to suck in both of those games. Although for a while I thought it was just when I bring friends to the games in general. I brought Evan with me to the game last weekend and it wasn't pretty but we did win. So those losses to UAB and UF rest on you. :) I hope you are doing well. I'll call you soon.

Chad...it was Dave who made the mistake and no I'm not offended. I am never (ok, almost never) offended. That's why you keep me around, well when I'm in town.
